Haiku Reflections

the wood frogs body
will freeze into ice – one way
to survive winter

A wood frog can survive being frozen solid all winter long, and the suggestion seems to be that the poet could do the same. But at what cost? That is the unspoken question at the heart of this masterfully restrained haiku. Notice that the poet has used three season words (freeze, ice, and winter). A difficult trick to pull off in a haiku.
